Privacy Policy — Recipe Quest

1 Who We Are

Recipe Quest ("we", "our", "us") is a mobile application that helps users discover and cook dishes from cuisines around the world. The app is operated by the Recipe Quest team. For any privacy-related questions, contact us at athulsethumadhavan+recipeSupport@gmail.com.

2 Information We Collect

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, camera, or microphone data. Passwords are never stored by us — they are hashed server-side by Supabase using bcrypt before being saved.

3 How We Use Your Data

Account & authentication — to create and manage your account and keep you signed in securely.
Favourites sync — to save your favourite dishes across devices.
Purchase verification — to unlock dishes and cuisines you have paid for and restore them after reinstallation.
Advertising — to show banner and rewarded ads via Google AdMob. You can opt out of personalised ads in your device settings.
App improvement — to diagnose bugs and improve performance (aggregated, non-identifiable data only).

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to any third party.

5 Data Storage & Security

Your account data is stored on Supabase servers located in the Asia Pacific (Tokyo) region. We apply the following safeguards:

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and never stored in plain text.
All data in transit is encrypted with TLS 1.2+.
Row-Level Security (RLS) policies ensure users can only access their own data.
Access to the database is restricted to authorised team members only.

Despite these measures, no method of electronic transmission is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password.

6 Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Correction — request correction of inaccurate data.
Deletion — request deletion of your account and associated data.
Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
Opt out of personalised ads — via your device's advertising settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy → Tracking; Android: Settings → Google → Ads).

7 Children's Privacy

Recipe Quest is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it promptly.

8 Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account remains active. If you request deletion, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it (e.g., financial records related to in-app purchases, which may be retained for up to 7 years).

9 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page and, where the changes are significant, notify you via the app or email. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
